Mine was a pale blue 1970 Ford Maverick, which I had for 21 years. It had a dark blue vinyl top, which of course peeled. My dad used to change the brake shoes on it himself, out on hot summer days on the bermuda grass in the backyard, using his own tools on those heavy-duty springs. Could have blinded himself. But he grew up as a farm boy, and during World War II he was the head mechanic on B-17s. Every time one of those B-17s was worked on, he had to go up with the pilots. Talk about a guarantee. What was the best car you ever owned?
(For a favorite car, the 1957 Thunderbird comes to mind. With the porthole.)

My favorite car was an orange 1971 240Z. The first year they came out. It was sleek and fast and drew attention everywhere I went. I'm not a car person, but I loved that car. Every morning after waking up, it called to me from the garage, "Take me for a ride."
ReplyDeleteI remember the 240 Z, Chill! That was one of the cool cars. I remember the rich kid who had a yellow Jaguar XKE, too. But I liked the Z. I remember a yellow one and a green one (?). Very sporty.
ReplyDeleteI forgot that before my trusty old Maverick, I had a white AMC Javelin, with a black racing stripe. Gorgeous little car. Unfortunately, being a teenager, I totaled it.
